CEC is located in the heart of Cork City. The school was founded over 35 years ago and is a family-run organisation that takes great pride in the service and personal contact it provides for each of its clients. It has received over 40,000 students since it was first opened.

CEC’s 3 city centre buildings are located across the River Lee from the main shopping street, St. Patrick’s Street. From the school’s buildings, students have easy access to everything Cork city has to offer.

Standard General English

CEC’s General English course focuses on effective communication in real world contexts. You will have regular meetings with your teacher to help you set up a study plan for the future and to maximise your progress.

Lessons: 20 x 60 mins/week
Levels: Elementary – Advanced
Max students: 10 (average 6-8)
Age: 17+
Timetable: 9.00 – 13.20, Mon – Fri

 

Intensive General English

In addition to the General English Classes in the morning, you will attend an extra 8 hours of classes in the afternoon. The classes are based on a specific topic and include integrated skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking, however, the main focus is on conversation and speaking skills.

Lessons: 28 x 60 mins/week
Levels: Elementary – Advanced
Max students: 10 (average 6-8)
Age: 17+
Timetable: 9.00 – 13.20, Mon – Fri + 14.20 – 16.20, Mon – Thurs

 

Standard Combination Course

On this 25-hour course you will attend General English classes in the morning and in the afternoons you will have one-to-one lessons with one of CEC’s trainers. The course allows you to improve your overall English language skills and also to focus on specific areas.

Lessons: 25 x 60 mins/week (20 x group + 5 x one-to-one)
Levels: Elementary – Advanced
Max students: 10 (average 6-8)

Cambridge Preparation Courses, FCE, CAE, CPE

CEC’s preparation courses help you to improve your overall English language ability while also developing the skills and techniques needed to pass the exam. The school’s courses prepare you for all the components of the examinations: Reading, Writing, Use of English, Listening and Speaking and include regular timed examination practice with feedback from their trainers, speaking exam practice with experienced examiners and access to Cork English College’s E-Learning platform for further examination practice.

Cambridge Accelerated FCE & CAE Preparation Course

CEC’s accelerated courses prepare you for the exam by providing you with a thorough preparation for the Cambridge English exam of your choice. The courses have been specially designed to maximise exam success.

The Business English and TOEIC preparation course is perfect for you if you need to develop your English language skills and business related vocabulary and you also want to receive an internationally recognised certificate of your level.

Business English (20 hours per week)

The Business English course focuses on developing your ability to use English in the context of work and international business. The course is suitable for you if you are already working and need English in work or if you are studying business and will need English in the future.

Max students: 10 (average 6-8)
Age: 17+

Intensive Business English (28 hours per week)

In addition to the Business English classes in the morning, you will attend an extra 8 hours of classes in the afternoon. The materials used have a business focus. This course is perfect if you need more confidence when speaking and if you want to improve quickly.

Business Combination English

You will attend the Business English course for 20 hours in the morning and have 5 hours of one-to-one tuition in the afternoon. In these one-to-one lessons the teacher will focus on your specific language needs.

CEC provides a wide variety of summer and winter Junior programmes.

Cork English College has organised activity programmes for groups of teenagers for the past 36 years with great success. The programmes are exciting and innovative. The main aim of the courses is to improve the students’ use and command of the English Language through activities. Their main centres are located in good residential suburbs of Cork City. All of their activities are fully supervised by professional trainers.

CEC’s two-week teacher training programme offers 50 hours of practical training in the most-up-to date teaching techniques while also helping participants to improve their own language skills.

Classes on Irish history, culture and the Irish educational system in addition to a full social and activity programme also form part of this intensive and dynamic course.

CEC Accommodation

Homestay

All of CEC’s host families have been selected and visited by their representative and they are made aware of the student’s physical and emotional needs. Most host families are based in the suburbs, 2-3km from the city centre.

Standard Host Family Accommodation

This type of accommodation is arranged on a half board basis from Monday to Friday and full board at the weekends. CEC ensures that unless otherwise requested there will be only one student of the same mother tongue in the same household.

Executive Host Family Accommodation

CEC also offers executive accommodation where students, along with all the facilities provided with standard Homestay, will have access to his or her own bathroom and the bedrooms are of a superior quality. A private bathroom is not guaranteed.

Student Residence

CEC provides accommodation in Residential Apartments, Shared Apartments and Private Apartments. All are self-catering and located throughout the city.
